New Mercedes-Maybach idea is off-road luxurious EV | Autocar

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the outlandish Challenge Maybach idea – an all-electric and completely bespoke creation co-designed with clothier Virgil Abloh, who died earlier this week.

The idea has been revealed in tribute to Abloh, who labored with Mercedes designer Gordon Wagener to create a present automobile which “exemplifies the probabilities of future design”.

The idea has been designed from the bottom up, and is claimed to be “not like something” the producer has created to date. It explores a brand new design language for Mercedes’ luxurious model, impressed by “the nice outdoor”.

The Challenge Maybach has been styled with the goal of “recontextualising a historically city model inside a distinctly off-road surroundings”, and is described as a two-seat, battery-electric off-road coupé. At six metres lengthy, the idea is a full 745mm longer than even the extended-wheelbase model of the S-Class.

Not clearly associated to any manufacturing Mercedes mannequin, it combines conventional grand tourer proportions with chunky off-road tyres, hinting at a twin concentrate on go-anywhere potential and basic Maybach ranges of refinement.

Its unveiling follows the debut, at Munich in September, of the brand new Maybach EQS SUV idea, which extra carefully previews the division’s first electrical automobile. Mercedes has given no indication of manufacturing intent for the brand new machine.
